This picture of the Elegant Cat's Ear was taken in late spring near Brfownsville, Oregon. We look for the Cat's ear each spring and manytimes find large clusters of this very elegant, white wildflower.
Calochortus elegans A small plant with slender, bent stems and a few white flowers, in a branched cluster shorter than the single grass-like leaf. Flowers: about 1" wide, sepals 3, lanceolate; petals 3, broad, slightly longer than sepals, densely hairy on surface, often with a purple crescent near the base above the gland, on which lower side is a fringed membrane. Leaves 4-8" long. Flowers from May to June. Habitat is grassy hillsides and open coniferous woods. Their range is Southern Washington and northeastern Oregon to western Montana.
